  1. Hello, fellow lineagers!

I would like to remind you that on Tuesday (15th of September) Frost, our security system, shall receive an update. Unfortunately, as a side-effect, Lineage 2 will no longer launch on Windows 7 x64 that has no KB3033929 update on board. To install the update you will need to follow these steps:
    1. Download it here: https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=46148
    2. Run the file you have downloaded Windows6.1-KB3033929-x64.msu
    3. Follow the installation master's instructions
You should not have any problems with installing the update, but if you do, please do not hesitate to contact our support service at https://support.4game.com/.

NB!: if you are operating Windows 7 with no updates at all, you won't be able to install KB3033929 right away. You will need to install SP 1 first.
    Download here.
Install it and reboot your PC. You will be able to update your system with KB3033929 now.

This guide will help you to fix Status:1073 Frost Security Error.

To answer truthfully, I don't really know. I was doing a Windows update and
KB2893294 failed to update, providing a code 8024200D. I clicked on a link to
System Update Readiness Tool. I followed a link to the MS website where the
program appeared to repair the failure. I rebooted the computer when requested
and re-ran the Windows update. Afterwords, it appeared that the patch
installed.

a page like this perhaps ?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Windows-Update-error-8024200d

which vectors you here

http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947366

and one of the separate SURCHECK packages. But this isn't a complete
list, and the item may be inappropriate (a waste of downloading time).

Download the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) package now.
Download the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista x64 (KB947821) package now.
Download the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008 (KB947821) package now.
Download the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Server 2008 x64 (KB947821) package now.
Download the System Update Readiness Tool for Itanium-based Systems (KB947821) package now.

Those are usually hundreds of megabytes, and do some sort
of Store check.

Now, I had a page the other way with *all* the SURCHECK packages
on it, but I don't see it now. These "artsy" pages aren't
of much use.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool

The thing is, you have to read the description carefully,
check the dependencies before wasting time downloading one.
For example, this one is for Win7 SP1 x64. The System Requirements
say SP1.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858

I ran one of those on Windows 7 with no Service Pack installed,
just for fun :-)

Paul

One of the places I ended up at is:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/windowsupdate80246007-for-win-7/08075987-87be-407b-b6b9-0220c0796589
I d/l'd the program from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858 which doesn't look
anything like the link you provided??
Right now, I'm using "Tweak" to recover on of my two laptops. I've got two
laptops (Dell M6600's), one under warranty and one not. The one under warranty
was having problems that looked like a bad video card (these are known to have
bad cards). The service tech did a remote thing and ran Tweak on it and when it
was done, all the problems had gone away...8). The other, I just replaced the
video card with a later, better card and was having the same sort of problems
you're having. So far, the patch has installed but I don't know what Tweak will
do to the fix.

The Microsoft KB acknowledges there will be problems
with this update if you multiboot. For example, someone
here was using GRUB.

https://discuss.howtogeek.com/t/update-kb3033929-fails-with-error-code-80004005/26172/3

*******

And here is the text from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3033929

Issue 1

Some users cannot install this security update if their
computers meet the following conditions:

Have a multiple-boot configuration of Windows
and various distributions of Linux

Use a non-Windows boot loader

Have Windows and Linux installed on separate drives <--- scary!!! I was hoping
this would work...

We have been able to verify that systems that have the
Windows boot loader enabled as the primary loader are
successfully able to install this update and that systems
that have a non-Windows boot loader specified as the
primary boot loader cannot install the update, even if
the user uses that loader to select Windows.

Issue 1 workaround

To work around that issue, you can either use Windows
as the default boot loader or you can change your BIOS
settings to enable the Windows boot loader directly
when you install this update.

They forgot to add "delete all your Linux partitions
and install only Genuine Windows", with neon sign flashing
lights around it :-) Seems a rather self-promotional kind
of answer to the problem.

So maybe the install of that thing backs out on
the reboot, because of the problems the install
causes ? Like, maybe modifying how your system boots,
long enough to finish that patch, is enough.

This is the kind of update I just hide... and move on.
Signing is nice, but not in an incompatible way.

Paul

so this is an issue with the bios interfering with the update?

If you are using a different boot loader method (GRUB)
than the one expected, it can cause the installation
of the patch to fail, on the next reboot. Modern patching
involves messing about with files during shutdown,
as well as messing about with files each in boot phase.
And somehow, if GRUB chainloads Windows, there is some
issue with the update failing and rolling back.

At one time, Microsoft wasn't very clever, and things
that failed on the next boot, could "brick" the machine.
But they've improved on that a bit. And they pretty well
have to, in the case of Win10, due to their insistence on
automation. It an update could not be rolled back,
there could be 15 million dead computers out there.

If you get error code 8000405 installing this fix, and use BIBM to boot

Whatever that means...

Are you not able to disable your boot manager temporarily?

I don't understand at all how the boot manager can affect this patch, it
seems to me it's a really bad patch if it cannot handle a different boot
manager. But in any case, try disabling what you use to multiboot, leave
it with the Win7 partition active, and try the patch. Let us know how it
went.

Thank you.
