Sửa lỗi bitlocker the system cannot find the file specified năm 2024

We decided to give our Dell Insipiron (Windows 10 1803?) laptop to a young lady starting online school. I cleaned off all personal files and unnecessary apps. I ran all updates, including the upgrade to Windows 10 1909. I created a new user as admin with a generic name & password that she could change later. I then removed the the existing user. The machine was working fine and all set to go. I was about to shut down when I saw a message telling me I had to restart to complete a device installation (I don't remember for what). So I did.

Show

Since then the computer will not start up windows. During start up I get the message "The system cannot find the specified file". Clicked OK 25 times... it won't go past there.

After hard shutdown and rebooting 3 times it went in to Automatic Repair. I found a youtube tutorial as I was not familiar with this tool.. But, everything it told me to try (troubleshoot / advanced options) everything I try either does nothing or is asking for a Recovery Key - I had no idea what that is, so I researched it.... but I have no idea where to get that key.

So now I am stuck.

Can anybody here help me with this please?

Thanks in advance.

If you don't need any data on the computer you can do a reset with the option to keep files but doing this would require you to reinstall any programs you installed prior to the reset. The recovery key sounds like a Bitlocker key. Is this Windows 10 Pro. There have been issues where Bitlocker gets enabled automatically and then asks for a key where the person doesn't have any idea of what the key is.

How to reset our PC from the Boot Menu. The link says Windows 8 but the instructions include 10

Thanks for the reply JohnC_21.

I tried doing the reset from the Repair Module, and yes it is asking me for this key.

I read the thread in one of your links... and the only thing I could find that I could actually see on my machine was this:

"f you power on the system and repeatedly tap the F2 key in quick session you can access the BIOS. You will be looking for a menu for Boot Options and from within there you can disable "Secure Boot". Click on apply and then restart the system. Hopefully this bypasses the bitlocker prompt and you can now log into Windows as normal."

However, before I click ok a warning comes up saying it could prevent my system from booting. Yikes! So do I really want to disable Secure Boot?

Disabling SecureBoot should not prevent a computer from booting. I have done this and have never had an issue but then again I have never received that warning.

I would consider doing a clean install using the BC clean install guide pinned to the Windows 10 forum. Even if you cleaned your files off the drive you can still recover them with forensic software unless you specifically zero wiped the free space of the drive.

Disabling "Secure Boot" did not work.

I will look at your suggestion of a clean install. Will let you know how that works

This is crazy that MS would do this auto enabling without telling the user, and have so many people effected by this, can't get in to their computers.

That should be illegal.

Thanks again..

Did you have a setting in your BIOS called PPT

I solved it by going to the Bios config (F2 on Dell logo), going to Security, PTT and enabling PTT checkbox. Then I saved, restarted and it started Windows again without asking for BitLocker key.

Hi, this may not be a bitlocker issue you do not receive "The system cannot find the specified file" generated by bitlocker. I note from your original post:-

"I created a new user as admin with a generic name & password that she could change later. I then removed the the existing user."

Did you also navigate to :-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Identify the current SID and modify this key "ProfileImagePath" to point to the new user accounts name?

No I did not have that option. I saw that suggestion too and looked for it, it wasn't there.

It didn't start out as a bitblocker issue, I believe it was caused by an error with the last update. But the bitblocker, and my not having the key is what is keeping me from fixing it with any of the options in the Repair Module..... because I can't get to my hard drive. I had restarted the computer after creating the new user and it was fine. It was only after I restarted again prompted by the message I had to "restart to complete the installation..." of some device that I could no longer get in.

As for your suggestion about the registry key. I don't know how to do that

I am trying to see if I can find this key.... waiting for my Daughter to get home so we can look around in her Microsoft account, they say it's stored there.

Other than that, I don't know what else to try short of a complete wipe and re-install...

Which I would really like to try and avoid if I can.

Hi, well if you did not change that path then the computer is looking for the old user account and hence it cannot find the file specified, bitlocked (or another security setting) may have kicked in when you force shutdown the computer. You do have to direct windows to the right path otherwise it cannot load the user profile and it will not work.

Can you confirm that you can access the RE (recovery environment) I believe you can since you mention it in your first post you need to access advanced options then command prompt if you can do this then we can walk you through the steps to fix this.

BC Advisor,

Yes I can.... although it asks me to enter the key to open Command Prompt. I can "skip this driver" (an option it gives me on the bottom) and it takes me to the Prompter, although ahything I have tried there tells me I need the key to get in. But I would be great if you could help me try anything to get past the bitlock!

But late for tonight. Have to be up early for work in the morning. Can I message you tomorrow evening when I get home?

PS: Went to my Daughters MS account and could not find any key stored there...

Hi, this should not happen in the RE, (asking for a key since no services controlling this are loaded) no disrespect however before you created a new account and deleted the existing one you should have sought advice as to how to do this. Now I am not in front of the computer and since you intend to gift this unit it would be far better for you to now perform a clean install and start afresh.

Hi BC,

I did get advice and that is what I was told to do.

So you don't want to try anything in command prompt anymore later today?

I agree with jenae. Because you are giving this computer away I would recommend you do a clean install. If you had important personal files on the drive then I would recommend you zero out the drive first.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in my reply, I was waiting until I had time to do this....

So I tried to create installation media on a USB on my computer (desktop) to do the clean install on the laptop, it starts to create and then stops and says the tool cannot be used on my computer. I do not have windows 10 on the desktop.... would that be why? And what do I do now?

MCT will run on any Windows 7 and later computer. I don't know if Microsoft has changed this.

You can also download and install Rufus. Allow it to update. When you run Rufus it will give you the option to download the iso file of Windows 10.
