Hiya! It's Saturday night and I'm feeling not exactly fancy free, because I'm recovering from the flu. Which is also the reason why I've been missing in action for the past few days - sorry! I got a bit better just in time to participate in the Calamartes debate on media and sexualization I was invited to, uhm, participate in (excuse my less than stellar eloquence today, reidual flu), and then the flu hit me back hard for my insolence. I've been curled up like a sad ball of feverish coughing for the past 24 hours, but I couldn't bare leaving my blog unattended for any longer, so here I am with a quick post.

Maybelline released a new mascara last month, and I was sent over a tube to review. As you might have picked up from my mascara comparison post, mascara is a vital part of my beauty routine, so I'm always on the lookout for new options. I present to you: Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama. You've probably seen the ad with Gigi Hadid by now, claiming you'll get the false lashes look by simply using The Falsies Push Up Drama. Let's see if it lives up to its claims.

This newest Maybelline offering comes in the kind of tube that makes it look like it is dual ended - for example with a primer on one end, and the actual mascara on the other. This is not the case, only the red side twists off, revealing a brush with short, sharp, spiky plastic bristles. I've never used this kind of brush before, so I was curious to see how it compared to my regular spoolie wands.

Now, let me first warn you: the formula is thick, wet and super black, and if you don't take care to use a light hand applying the mascara, your lashes will end up goopy, clumpy and super intense. Which is OK, if that's the look you're going for, but I want my mascara to allow me to build up to my prefered finish, and this one is full on clumpy from the first swipe if you don't apply carefully. However, if you've figured out how to use this one right, you'll have full, intensely black lashes with minimal effort. The formula also has a pretty strong scent, very reminiscent of Urban Decay's Perversion, but it doesn't bother me.

And if you do want that extra intense, spiky lash look, you can easily build up to it by adding a second coat. As I did in this last pic.

I didn't love this mascara straight away, as the clumpy look is a bit intimidating to me. But then I noticed that Maybelline's The Falsies Push Up Drama leaves fewer smudges on my browbone than my previous fav (Maybelline Go Chaotic), and in addition, it's much easier to fully remove at the end of the day. I just rub in a bit of my Corine De Farme micellar gel and it's gone. I figured I'd give it another shot the next day, and after figuring out how to apply it sans clumps, it has become my new go-to mascara. I can fully recommend it. My Experience with Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara (Washable)

Packaging: This mascara comes in a distinct, metallic, colorful packaging. The tube has a red screw-up cap, a black middle portion with lettering in rose gold, and a pink base. It has an unusual shape too. It has a unique push up cup brush, which scoops, coats, and lifts lashes, bathing them in volume. The wand is long, and bristles are spiky. This mascara is housed inside a similar-toned outer paperboard carton, and it contains all the necessary information, including the ingredients list. This funky packaging is quite sturdy and travel friendly. However, it would have been great if the shelf life was mentioned at the base of the mascara tube.

Texture: The texture of this mascara is a bit liquidy, so it can get a little messy [I am not sure if this is the case with the waterproof variant as well]. Once it is set, there will be no flaking, smearing, or smudging. It is jet black and highly pigmented. It glides on effortlessly without any tugging or pulling. The wand applies the mascara without any clumps. One coat is enough to give that full-on mascara look. It does not make the eyelashes stiff.

Performance: This mascara is on the wet side. So it definitely needs time to set. Be careful as it can mess your complete eye makeup. However, once it is set, it gives flake-free, smudge-proof wear.

The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara’s wet texture can be messier if not given setting time

This mascara adds incredible length to the lashes. You get dramatically long lashes effortlessly. The wand’s spiky bristles truly scoop the lashes out and add length and volume to them. Although it adds good length and volume, it does not give that “lifting” effect, which is disappointing. It does not curl up the lashes nor completely hold the curl created with an eyelash curler. One coat of this mascara does not cluster the lashes, whereas multiple coats add clumpiness to the lashes. However, one coat is quite enough to get dramatically long, thick lashes. Also it needs drying time between coats. This mascara is both washable and smudge proof, making it perfect for our hot and humid Indian weather. It can easily stay on the lashes until you intend to take them off, and it did not irritate the eyes even a bit. Although washable mascara, it needs a bit of effort to remove from the lashes. A good eye makeup remover is a must. My preference for the washable version has no meaning. It is definitely not an everyday mascara. Its special effects need special occasions 😉 Overall, I am not a falsies person, and I am in love with the falsies effect this mascara gives me.

Go for it if you want lush, long, voluminous lashes but not a falsies person like me! I would probably go for the waterproof formula next time.

Does Maybelline Sky High mascara clump?

Mostly because they're more likely to clump but, actually, Sky High didn't make my lashes stick together. The flexible, conical wand easily glided through from root to tip, somehow extending my lashes and making them appear longer than they naturally are.
