Even when I started using French skin care products regularly, I did not use sunscreen. I was not convinced that sunscreen was something my Indian skin needed, especially when living in Europe where sunlight was a rarity.

But then Pokemon Go happened. I got extremely tanned walking around the town trying to ‘catch them all’. So I decided to search for a sunscreen that would not break me out.

A French pharmacist recommended La Roche Posay to me. Seeing my post-acne dark marks, she suggested that I use SPF 50. Thus I ended up buying my first tube of La Roche Posay Antihelios XL Comfort. When I went to renew my supply, I bought a La Roche Posay Antihelios XL Anti-shine since I had oily skin.

My Experience

I use La Roche Posay sunscreens when I am going to stay outdoors for prolonged periods- like when I am out shopping or on a vacation or hiking.

Both these sunscreens are not waterproof. They leave yellow stains on tissues when I wipe off sweat.

Is there a white cast? Yes and no. Whether these sunscreens leave a white cast depends on the amount that I have applied and reapplied, as well as how tanned I am. They don’t leave me looking like a mime, but neither do they completely disappear. As long as I apply a single, light layer evenly covering my entire face and neck, I can pass it off as a tone up effect. But any more than that or reapplications make the creams really stand out against my skin.

Both the sunscreens have a thick, creamy texture. The Anti-shine version is lighter in texture as well as colour (slightly less yellow) than the Comfort version and spreads more easily. They both leave a matte finish, which for me does not last long as my skin gets oily- even with he Anti-shine version.

Conclusion

Both, La Roche Posay Antihelios Comfort and Antihelios Anti-shine are high protection sunscreens. They are too heavy to be used while working in office or for indoor use. But they perform very well for outdoor activities. I would go with the Antihelios Anti-shine version as it spreads easily as compared to the Comfort version.
