Berlin Marathon 2023 lottery

The lottery teams effectively triple your chances of getting selected.

Basically, if any one of the three people in your team get selected, then all three people are invited.

Naturally, if you only have two people, then you'd be doubling your chances (instead of tripling your chances).

Refer to u/mambo_cat's explanation on scoring. Aside from entry, there are no other indications (on your bib or records or otherwise) that you ran as a "team".

Got into Berlin twice with a team of three. Did not need to do anything with the other two once I was in - picked up my bib on my own, ran the race on my own, got my own medal. The first time, I did meet up with my teammates (and other friends) afterwards, since we were (still are) friends. The second time (this year), the other two deferred their own entries due to injuries, but I still ran.

It’s always a tense day when one of the Marathon Majors announces the results of its ballot. As you open the email, you’ll find out how your upcoming year’s training is going to shape up – have you gained a place or do you have to wait another 12 months?

After London , the Berlin Marathon is popular with Brits wanting to travel to complete another of the six World Marathon Majors. Entry to the 2022 Berlin Marathon is now closed, and on 10 January it announced the results of its ballot.

The good news is that if you didn’t gain a place there’s now a new way to take part in the race. Destination Sport Experiences is a sports travel company that offers runners guaranteed entry into running, cycling and triathlon events across the world, and it's just added Berlin to its roster.

This means you can now get guaranteed entry into the sold-out event on 25 September 2022 through the company.

But, it does require you book three nights of accommodation with them (at a cost of £429), on top of the £180 race entry, which will set you back a total of £609.00 per person (including breakfast and some added extras).

It's certainly not cheap but, if you can afford it, the hotel is in a very handy location – near the event expo and the start and finish lines, so as well as being in the thick of the action you’ll be well-placed to stagger/crawl back after completing the race.
