Of course, that was before all the behind-the-scenes issues such as the recasting of Johnny Depp and the backlash against Rowling's tweets about gender. It was also before the series took a nose dive at the box office, with The Secrets of Dumbledore becoming the lowest-grossing Harry Potter movie ever with $405 million worldwide. Now there has also been plenty of changes at Warner Bros after the merger in April 2022 with Discovery. It's led to already-filmed movies being cancelled and other planned projects cancelled, as the studios shifts focus back to exclusive theatrical releases. Warner Bros. There's every chance the new bosses at Warner Bros Discovery will choose to continue a known property, despite the box-office drops. Will we see the next two movies in the series as originally planned? Your guess is as good as ours, but as of September 2022, there has been no definitive word about the future of the series. If it does happen, here's everything you need to know about the next planned movie in the Fantastic Beasts series. (Be warned, major spoilers are ahead for The Secrets of Dumbledore, so don't read on if you haven't seen the movie yet.) Warner Bros. Fantastic Beasts 4 potential release date: When will Fantastic Beasts 4 and 5 be released?We don't yet have a confirmed release date for Fantastic Beasts 4 or Fantastic Beasts 5, so we can only speculate. After several delays, The Secrets of Dumbledore arrived in cinemas in April 2022, almost four years after the sequel. A large part of the delay was out of its control as the ongoing global pandemic affected its filming. We had originally assumed the fourth and fifth movies would arrive in November 2022 and November 2024, following the first two movies being released in November 2016 and November 2018. Obviously, this won't be the case any more, but if the fourth movie does happen, maybe we can expect a shorter wait. You're probably still likely to have to wait until 2024 at the earliest though. Warner Bros. In February 2022, producer David Heyman revealed that work had yet to begin on the script for the fourth movie (via ScreenRant). As for the release date of Fantastic Beasts 5, we can't even really speculate at the moment as it will depend when the fourth movie comes out. Unless they film back-to-back though, we might be looking at 2026 for that. Fantastic Beasts 4 cast: Who's coming back for Fantastic Beasts 4 and 5?We're about to head into some spoilers for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, so don't read on past the photo if you haven't seen it. Warner Bros. Nothing has been confirmed about the cast of the fourth movie, but all the main characters survived the events of the third movie, so you can expect the following returns if the fourth movie happens: • Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander The future is less certain for Ezra Miller's Credence Barebone. It was confirmed in the third movie that he is a Dumbledore, although he's actually Aberforth's (Richard Coyle) son and not Albus's brother. However, it's revealed he's also slowly dying as a result of the Obscurus inside him and at the end of the movie, Aberforth takes him back home. We imagine he'll die off-screen, but he might have a cameo in the next movie. Katherine Waterston's Tina Goldstein had a major role in the first two movies, but was relegated to a small cameo in The Secrets of Dumbledore. Tina is now the head of the American Auror office which is keeping her "very busy". Hopefully there will be more for Tina to do in the next movie, but it's not guaranteed. We know from canon that Newt and Tina do eventually get married, so she won't be completely missing. Warner Bros. Could we see some Harry Potter favourites show up in a fourth movie? Ahead of the release of the third movie, Fogler didn't shut down the rumours that we could see a younger version of Hagrid at some point. Behind the camera, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them director David Yates (who also helmed the last four Harry Potter movies) signed on to direct all of the movies in the series. In addition to Yates, another Harry Potter original series alumnus joined the Fantastic
Beasts franchise in the third movie. Steve Kloves, who penned seven of the eight Harry Potter screenplays, wrote the third movie with Rowling. We don't know for sure if Kloves will be back, but we'd hope he is if the fourth movie does happen. Fantastic Beasts 4 and 5 plot: How will Fantastic Beasts end?Unlike The Crimes of Grindelwald, The Secrets of Dumbledore doesn't end with a cliffhanger and pretty much wraps up the major plot points. As mentioned, we find out that Credence is a Dumbledore and we also get confirmation of a long-running Harry Potter fan theory that Albus and Aberforth's sister Ariana was an Obscurial like Credence.
Warner Bros. In the finale, Dumbledore and Grindelwald's blood pact is broken after Grindelwald tries to kill Credence for betraying him. Dumbledore protects Credence without thinking of Grindelwald, and their "spells met" which broke the pact. This sets the stage for their big duel in the future that we know from Harry Potter canon. Rowling has said that the movies will cover
19 years of Wizarding World history. That will take the last one up to 1945, the year that Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald and claimed the Elder Wand from
him. That was also the year that a certain Tom Riddle (the future Voldemort) graduated from Hogwarts. All that considered, it seems unlikely that the fifth movie won't feature the climactic battle between Dumbledore and his former friend. Warner Bros. We know less about what happens with Newt and the other Fantastic Beasts characters during that period. So when it comes to them, they could be doing anything in the fourth and fifth movies, should they happen. Queenie and Jacob get married at the end of The Secrets of Dumbledore, so maybe they'll take it as their chance to leave this whole life behind. Is there going to be an 8th Harry Potter movie?As of August 2022, there are no plans to make a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie. That said, there has been some interest from the Harry Potter cast and crew in making the film one day. Daniel Radcliffe told The New York Times he wasn't against returning to the series one day in the future.
Are there going to be more Harry Potter movies?The studio also has the spinoff film series Fantastic Beasts, the latest of which, The Secrets of Dumbledore, came out this July. There have been no announced plans for further entries in either franchise, however.
