Seriously guys, this is a beautiful product inside and out for soothing irritation or stressed skin and would be great for a variety of skin types! This post contains affiliate links, however, all products are purchased myself and the review contains my honest thoughts.

Quick facts:

EWG Rating: The ampoule is 100% Centella Asiatica Extract which has a 1 Green EWG Grade (no concern).

Formulation: paraben free, sulphate free, fragrance free and free from mineral oils (this is 100% Centella Asiatica Extract)!

Potential irritants: The ampoule is certified as hypoallergenic and therefore does not contain any potential irritants.

Texture: The ampoule has a very watery consistency that absorbs quickly into the skin and leaves skin feeling fresh, clear and hydrated. It has a slightly tacky feel for a few minutes before fully absorbing into the skin and only 2-3 drops are required when used (but I fill and use the full pipette worth and try to pat as much into my skin as possible because it is SO GOOD).

Where to purchase: You can also purchase this ampoule from SKIN1004’s official Amazon storefront!

Price: It’s currently $12.95 USD for the 1.85 Fl Oz or 55ml (I have the 100ml in the pictures)

Scent: No notable scent

Packaging: The ampoule comes in a glass bottle with a pipette dropper. The design of the bottle reduces the amount of product waste and spillage ensuring you get your complete money’s worth! The Centella Asiatica ampoule comes in two different size bottles: 55ml and 100ml.

Main pros: This is a very gentle, skin-soothing serum that is lightweight (love the watery texture) and can help with occasional acne/redness/irritation and would be a good alternative if you’re sensitive to AHAs, BHAs, etc. For all the beneficial ingredients it has, I think most people would enjoy it. Just as a reference, I saw a reduction in redness and improvement in hydration in about a week of consistent use. I’ve used up over 80% of the product at the time of this update and will continue to repurchase! The glass packaging is also so beautifully designed and luxe!

Main cons: If you don’t really have sensitive skin/irritated skin etc then you might find this just to be slightly hydrating (and doesn’t do much else). It’s for a different purpose compared to something like an active (AHA, BHA or Vitamin C) and is just meant to soothe the skin.

What does the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule do?

The brand website notes that the SKIN1004 Centella ampoule soothes and calms the skin whilst also improving the strength of the skin. The product is great for sensitive skin as Centella has calming and soothing properties. The Centella Asiatica is grown in a clean climate and the extract has a slightly acidic pH in order to match the skin’s natural pH level.

Is the SKIN1004 Centella Ampoule good?

YES! Centella asiatica, also known as Gotu Kola is a medicinal plant that has been used for hundreds of years in traditional Asian medicine. Especially in dermatological conditions, to improve small wounds, scratches, burns, hypertrophic wound healing, and as an anti-inflammatory agent, particularly in eczema.

It is scientifically proven to be effective in improving treatment of burns, psoriasis and scleroderma as well. Source: US National Library of Medicine.

I’ve seen some reviews online mentioning this doesn’t do much for their blackheads or immediately reduce pimples, but I don’t think this ampoule is meant to do that. It’s more of a soothing, long-term skin conditioning ingredient that’s helpful for inflammation, stressed skin, and rebuilding the skin barrier.

You’ll also need to moisturize on top of this to seal in hydration.

SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Texture

Centella doesn’t combat acne (in the way that salicylic acid might) but I use multiple multiple layers of this daily and it has helped maintain and soothe my skin to repair the skin barrier to help reduce acne and reduce redness.

It is REALLY gentle and light on the skin due to its watery texture and I can use this day or night, winter or summer. For those with compromised skin barriers, this is a natural medicine for the skin in a beautiful bottle *yay affordable luxury*.

How do you use the SKIN1004 Centella Ampoule?

  1. Dispense the whole pipette onto freshly cleansed skin (in layers)and pat in to help absorption.
  2. Layer more if needed (this soaks into the skin really well) or add your serum.
  3. Finish off with your regular moisturizing routine.

The tinted glass bottle with the photo of the Madagascar mountains was such a great touch. Someone online mentioned this beautiful heavy bottle that just exudes simplistic glamour is exactly what this ampoule is. A simple beautiful ingredient!

Summing up

This is one of those ingredients that can work really well for a variety of skin concerns and skin types. I highly recommend trying this product if you have sensitive skin!

It won’t be as effective as a targeted ingredient for a particular concern (ie. BHA for blackheads), but over time, the centella ampoule will help a lot with the overall condition of your skin and strengthen your skin barrier.

Within a week of consistent use, I saw a reduction in redness, generally stressed skin and my pimples have been less angry. This is a really gentle and lightweight, watery ampoule and I cannot recommend it enough. Price point and packaging is absolutely beautiful as well. 11/10.
