Review Laneige Neo Cushion Glow

Please welcome back the cushion crazy lady, ME!  There were a lot of requests to see a review on Laneige’s latest Neo cushion.  I think it might be because of the gorgeous, sleek, and seamless packaging with that affordable price tag.  Now I must say, I haven’t been impressed with any of Laneige’s past BB cushions before.  I mean they were decent, but nothing really stood out to me.  This neo cushion says it is one of the first to have blue light protection.

There seems to be a lot of talks these days about how the blue light emitting from our digital devices could potentially cause harm to our skin, but it still isn’t a large enough amount to actually do severe damage [in my opinion].  Let’s see if this cushion is worth getting!

Product packaging:
Laneige’s neo cushion glow BB cushion has one of the most unique BB cushion compacts for sure.  Firstly, it isn’t in the traditional circle shape with the pop-off BB cushion but in a seamless square shape.

Inside is quite familiar, with the mirror and an air puff for application.  The air puff is one of the more dense ones, so it won’t soak up as much product and is able to push the product onto your skin a bit better.  I remember the first-generation BB cushions with those dark blue puffs that soak up so much product.  There’s only 15 g of product darn it!

To remove the BB cushion itself, you have to place the cushion into the compact and twist it to the left to lock it and twist to the right to remove it.  This Laneige BB cushion does not come with a refill, unfortunately, so you do have to buy them separately.

Colour/ pigmentation:
One thing I’m really happy about is the 7 shades you can choose from in the range.  Unfortunately, though, those 7 shade ranges don’t tap into the darker shade regions but into the even lighter shade region.  Why… I know Asia in general likes to look lighter, but give the darker girls more options!

I have here the second to last darkest shade, 23N, which is very comparable to most shade #23 I get from other brands.  It has a true yellow undertone and blends into my skin very nicely and effortlessly.  There isn’t any grey undertone and makes my overall complexion even and natural looking.

Texture/ Finish + coverage:
There are two versions to the neo cushion range, glow, and matte.  Obviously, with my dry skin, I chose to get the glow one.  It says it has a “diamond radiant coverage”.  I don’t know, we’ll just have to see about that.
Here is my bare face, kind of irritated by the change in weather.  This would be a good time to see how the coverage performs!

If you haven’t used a BB cushion before, you simply take the provided air puff and pat it all over your face.  For areas that need more coverage, go over it once more with more products, and voila!

Before [right] and after [left]
With just one layer of the Laneige neo cushion, it did a pretty good job at covering most of the unevenness in my skin.  There are a few red patches peeking out but I think that can easily be fixed with another thin layer.

Before [right], after [left]

Here is the cushion all over my face with another thin layer on areas that needs a bit more coverage.  Overall, the coverage is about a light to medium and the finish isn’t as dewy as I hoped it would be.  My skin is super duper dry, so I need something very glowy and dewy since the hydration gets sucked up within 3 hours of wear.  I think people with normal to combo skin types would like this cushion more.

Base makeup bunching up on my nose is one of my biggest pet peeve, and this BB cushion just seemed to sit on top of my skin and not really settle into the skin nicely.

The same thing with my forehead, the BB cushion just bunched up and not settle properly.

The cheeks also looked a bit dry, which I’m not too happy about since this is freshly applied!

Here it looks after a full face of makeup has been applied.  I used all either liquid or cream products to try and keep that hydration level at an optimal level.

Lasting power:
I wore this cushion for a full day at home because let’s be honest, we got nowhere to go during the quarantine. I don’t set my base make-up since I need that extra hydration to not make my face look like a desert.  For me and my dry skin, the coverage lasted all day and I didn’t have any issues with it rubbing off nor did I feel the need to reapply.

Fragrance?:
There’s a very perfumey floral scent to it but it isn’t overpowering.  Smell-o-scale: 7/10 in terms of how strong it is and it does fade after application.

Pro:
-good light to medium coverage
-7 shades to choose from

Con:
-doesn’t adhere to the skin nicely
-somewhat drying for my very dry skin

Repurchase?:

Overall thoughts:
I had high hopes for this cushion, mainly because the packaging is so pretty hehe.  This isn’t a horrible cushion but I was not impressed with the way it performed.  It didn’t adhere to the skin nicely and was already looking dry even before I left the house.  Overall I don’t really care for this BB cushion and would say to move on the next if you really are looking for an amazing BB cushion for your skin type.
