Pure vitamin c advanced serum review

I may try this again, but unfortunately my bottle had some issues. It exploded when I opened it and I lost some of the product and I found it oxidized very quickly.

This broke me out badly. Initially thought it was the purge, but it went beyond that. My skin was dry, irritated and it stung every time I put on my very trustworthy moisturizer. Before using this,...

I have been using this product for the past few and it has quickly become my Holy Grail skincare product. Recently I have been struggling with the aftermath of a hormonal breakout that left some...

I picked this serum up during their Black Friday in March sale last month…and since I was in need of a new Vitamin C serum I ended up slapping it on as soon as it arrived.

This products contains 21.5% of Ascorbic Acid along with Sea Buckthorn Water to aid in the stabilization as well as impart some hydration. By Wishtrend also claims that Sea Buckthorn can help enhance the efficacy of Vitamin C. Alongside those ingredients, Sodium Hyaluronate and Chinese Senna Seed Extract also make the list.

Similar to some other Vitamin C products I have tried or seen on the market…this serum is SUPER thin and watery. I’ve found this style of Vitamin C to be best used as a spot treatment rather than for the whole face, since getting an even and thorough application can be tricky.

I have been using this product for a month to target general hyperpigmentation and acne scars along my jaw line and neck. Just after cleansing, I apply about 5-6 drops of product into my palm and then use my fingers to “tap” it into various/specific areas. I find this application to be the easiest and most effective for me.

I’ve read/heard that Vitamin C products like this can be mixed into things like toners and even lotions to get a more even application. While I think it MIGHT work…I worry about keeping the pH of this product intact and effective when mixing it. I don’t have all the details on pH and Vitamin C so don’t quote me on that LOL! I personally take the more cautious route and apply this alone right after cleansing…and leave it be for about 1-2 minutes before moving on.

Over time I’ve noticed an increase of brightness in my areas of concern as well as an overall even-toned look. Now, the areas I am tackling have been an issue since my teens…and the hyperpigmentation is incredibly dark and deep. I still have a LONG, LONG way to go…but compared to 2 years ago Vitamin C has really moved things in the right direction.

A couple of things that I don’t particularly like about this product and similar Vitamin C serums is the occasional residue left behind and the fickleness of Ascorbic Acid in general LOL! Higher concentrations of this ingredient can sometimes be harder for the skin to absorb…which leaves a slightly sticky or tacky residue behind. While I tend to use this product every AM out of habit, there is no reason why this cant be used every other day or every third day with a good result. In fact, a few articles I’ve read state that Vitamin C is stored in the skin [almost like a “reservoir”] for up to 3 days…so I am probably overusing this product a bit.

Storage of Vitamin C in this format can be a hassle too. The packaging recommends keeping this in the refrigerator once opened…which for some people may already be a deal breaker LOL! Having to run from the vanity to the fridge in the middle of your routine is annoying. Or simply remembering to grab it beforehand or at all LOL! If left at too cool of a temperature…these types of products can start to crystallize. Little “rock like” balls of Vitamin C begin to form possibly impacting the efficacy and/or clogging the dropper.

I had this problem with both the Cosrx Triple C Lightning Liquid and the By Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21.5% Advanced Serum. It took me moving the bottle around in my fridge to finally find a spot it was happy in. More recently, I have taken to simply leaving it in my cool/dark/relatively even temperature towel closet in the bathroom. I haven’t seen any of the discoloration or oxidation that can happen so I’ve been lucky. But, when in doubt…follow the instructions as written on the package.

I named the Cosrx Triple C Lightning Liquid as my overall favorite product of 2018. It really was a game changer in improving a skin issue I had been struggling with/was embarrassed by for literal decades LOL! This serum from Wishtrend is really, really similar and I would put it up on the same pedestal.

For practical application…I would suggest incorporating a product like this into your routine as a spot treatment for specific areas of hyperpigmentation/dark spots. Once you see the effect/result you were hoping for, finish off the bottle and transition to something a little bit more stable/easy to use on a daily basis. I love the Glow Recipe Pineapple-C Bright Serum and even the Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum as less potent and more “maintenance mode” products. Both of these use Vitamin C “derivatives” and can live happily outside of a refrigerator. Their potency isn’t as great however…

It will most likely be an ongoing battle LOL…alternating between styles. But, I think with all of the hassle that comes along with these more “pure” forms of Ascorbic Acid…the results I’ve seen are worth it and the By Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21.5% Advanced Serum is an excellent choice!
