I guess this will have both cuts, along with whatever colour timing Mann picks at the time, which is always a worry, new extras, who knows, so lets see what 88Films do.

I'd have bought the 4K for sure but not sure about this. I've got the US Blu-ray already and I don't need the shorter UK edit.

Also love this film , it’s shot a certain way so the transfer always looked a bit shabby but the sound was superb , some of the shootouts again top notch

I may get this, I don't really remember much of it and have only watched it once (at the Cinema in Florida on release). Don't have it on disc at all.

The trailer looks super cool, though I quite like the Jay-Z/Linkin Park song that accompanies it, so that helps.

Latest update from 88 Films when asked what was happening with this:

It’s going to be UHD as well now and we have new extras being made right now

OP updated, thread is back to being for the Blu-ray Special Edition as that's going ahead for release next month. The 4K release is either cancelled or on hold, 88 Films did say a few weeks back that they'd explain what's going on with the 4K but have yet to do so.

mmm, I'd like to buy this but I'd like to know if a 4K is indeed coming out in due course as I may hold off if that's the case. I don't have this on disc and haven't seen it since it was released so do want to watch it again soon.

I believe Mann shot this digitally on an early HD camera. As a result it suffers from video noise in darker scenes and in shadows due to the limitations of the sensor in low light. It's already noticeable on the blu-ray.

If they were doing a 4K they would have to do an upscale while adding some DNR which could affect overall sharpness. It would be hard to get right. They could have done an AI upscale but as the 4K has been dropped we will have to wait to find out why.

IMHO it would benefit from HDR much like collateral did. Much maligned UHD but I thought it was fantastic.

Collateral looks as good as it could do given the circumstances. And a definite upgrade on the Blu of course.
