See how to preview ALL your fonts at the same time! It’s a HUGE time-saver for any graphic designer or DIYer looking to get their make on! Whenever I’m working on a project that uses text (like signs, birthday chalkboards, or free printables/cut files), I feel like I spend most of my time figuring out exactly which font(s) I want to use. Whether I’m working in Photoshop or Silhouette Studio, most of my designing time is spent running through my font list…and it takes forever since I’m a font fanatic! It’s just down-arrowing after down-arrowing, followed by settling on a font, only to second guess myself then having to run through all the fonts AGAIN. Ugh… It can be super frustrating at times, and such a time-suck. Well, recently I was introduced to an awesome tool that lets you preview ALL of the fonts that are installed on your computer AT THE SAME TIME! I’m all about working smarter, not harder, and this little gem helps me do just that. Hopefully you’ll find it equally amazing! How to Preview All Your Fonts At the Same Time!So just what is this little hidden treasure that allows anyone to see every font they have installed on their computer at the same time?? An amazing and super easy-to-use website called wordmark.it! Their tag line is “Helps you choose fonts!” and it’s so true! Now, don’t get me wrong. I know part of the fun of creating is the actual design process, which includes selecting fonts. I get it. It is fun to down arrow and manually peruse my fonts…to an extent. I’m still able to do that by using wordmark.it, it just doesn’t take nearly as long now. I love a good time saver! [Oh, and I am in no way affiliated with wordmark.it. I just love it and wanted to pass it along so others can use and enjoy!] How to Use Wordmark.it to Preview All Your Fonts at the Same TimeNow, this site is pretty straight-forward and doesn’t really need a tutorial, but, just in case, here’s a run-down on how to use all of its features. The site couldn’t be easier to use. All you do is type your word/phrase in the box at the top, then hit ‘load fonts.’ And wham-o! In just a few seconds, all the fonts that you have installed on your computer are loaded, and you can see how your desired word/phrase looks in all of them at once. I know, amazing! Tada! All of your fonts are previewed!After your fonts have been loaded, each is displayed in a little box with the font’s name underneath. Now you can just scroll through all of them to see which one(s) you like best. The default is a positive display, which shows your word in black text with a white background, but… …you can also select a negative display which inverts the colors, revealing white text with a black background. Lots of Options to Play With on Wordmark.itBut wait! There’s more! There are also more options on the menubar that you can play around with:
Filtering Your Wordmark.it Font Preview SelectionsIf you’ve previewed all your fonts and selected a few that you like and want to see them in more detail, just click on each one so it’s surrounded by a green box. Then click ‘filter selected.’ From here, you’re taken to a new screen with each of your selected fonts. On this screen, you can hover over each one to get some more information. More Font Details on Wordmark.itWhile hovering over a desired font, on the left you’ll see a little “+” that allows you to zoom in to see more details. On the right, there’s an “x” that removes that font from your selection. In the center, you’ll also notice a ‘tracking’ option with a “-” and “+” on either side. This allows you to adjust the kerning or character spacing between each letter. If you want to see what your word looks like with more spacing between each letter, just hit the “+” until you’re happy, and use the “-” to decrease the spacing. Sharing Your Favorite FontsThere are also some more options available at the bottom of the filter screen. You can save your selected fonts (you need to sign up and with a username and password first), print your selection, or share the fonts. If you want to share the fonts (maybe you’re working on a project for a family/friend/client or perhaps you’re just indecisive like me and need a little input from others!), just click on “share and get feedback”. From here, you’re given a URL you can copy and paste, or there are links to share your selection on Twitter, Facebook, or in an email. For Words and Phrases!If you’ve got a whole phrase you want to preview in all your fonts, just pop that thing in the box. A-to-ZOr you can even check out the whole alphabet at once by typing out the ABCs. This would be SUPER helpful for checking out all the characters of dingbat fonts (like my collection of favorite dingbats for birthday chalkboard posters)! Don’t Forget the Numbers & Punctuation Marks too!You can include numbers and all the other punctuation characters, too. Other Similar Font Previewing Sites/ProgramsAnother website called flipping typical works in the same way, but wordmark.it has different options. Also, myFontBook is available. I’ve never used it, but it looks to be super fancy! I’ve also heard of another program called NexusFont that works similarly as wordmark.it, however, it’s a program that has to be installed and only runs on Windows. Since I use a Mac, I’m out of luck on that. However, wordmark.it does a mighty fine job for me and my needs, so I plan on utilizing this nifty little tool often. Where are Fonts saved?Usually, this folder is either C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINNT\FONTS. Once this folder is open, select the fonts you want to install from an alternate folder, and then copy and paste them into the Fonts folder.
