Cathay pacific vs eva air review

According to BillT, EVA Air's Evergreen Deluxe Class is pretty roomy compared to standard economy. (I was ready to book on Cathay until I read Bill's response to my prior question.) I don't know much about EVA and don't hear it mentioned too often. Anyone care to comment? Service? Monitors in seats? I say this cuz EVA has pretty crapy schedual commimg back to NYC and many peaple have too stay in "the city" anyways.. I like the exta room on EVA I can sit "indian style" for a while but I don't much care for the TV service.. Cathey offers many movies and games. playing hangman and other stupid games can kill a couple of hours of that LOOOONg flight. \============ EVA is part of ONEPASS frequent flyer program Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 1,604 Likes: 0 Received 0 Likes on 0 Posts OK, I checked your other post and you still don't mention where your flying from it would help a lot. --- for instance ANA has a econ/premium product that thats beyand what EVA ofers. the seats has a plug too connect a computer and TV has full entertainment options. BUT the kicker is that it's only out of NYC.too tokyo ----- if ya want airlines that regularlly offer the best deals too bkk. EVA and china airlines usually lead that pack but any airline can offer a good pramotion at anytime. Although Newark is considered a NY area airport, it's in NJ and can be a big pain getting to depending on where you're coming from. What FF program do you belong- its about 20,000 miles round trip so you need to consider the ff mileage and what is most important to you in cabin service- legroom?, seat width? entertainment options etc? Price and schedule also factor in- look at all the factors and weigh them accordingly and then choose. For us EVA gave us the biggest bang for the buck. I live in Queens, about 10 minutes from LGA and 15 minutes from JFK, but Newark is about an hour and a half and a cab costs a small fortune, so for me, I won't even consider Newark. People who live on LI will have an even bigger problem. Other places in NY are closer to Newark so it could be a good option for them. If you live in NJ, JFK is a pain but Newark is wonderful (I'm a former Jerseyite). If you live in Connecticut as I do now, both are difficult to get to when traffic is heavy (most of the time, it seems). Since both are about equal distance, neither has a distinct advantage. - But EWR has much better connection from other US cities, and not only on Continental. Aside from Jetblue and a few DL/AA flights, JFK is just horrible when it comes to domestic routes. Last time I check, there's a grand total of one daily flight ORD-JFK. It's no wonder some international airlines are using EWR as their New York gateway. Not only EVA, but even Singapore Airlines use EWR for their Singapore non-stop. And SQ isn't even a partner with Continental. Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 17,146 rkkwan, as a regular, you know this always happens with threads and we all seem to be guilty of it! What you say about airlines using Newark is true. Whenever I fly Singapore, I have to go through Frankfurt since they codeshare with Lufthansa, but the planes are always Singapore, thank goodness. The extra time that is added is probably not much more than having to schlep to NJ though and we save a bundle on carfare. That may be worth the trip... Join Date: Jan 2003 Posts: 17,146 rkkwan, that's a good point but since I almost always fly in and out of BKK, (with the exception of this trip to Malaysia in Sept flying to KL and using CX) from JFK Thai has the non-stop and premium economy. Even the regular economy on the Thai flight, if it really does have a 37" pitch, would be a huge improvement and probably enough room for me as I am quite petite, but my husband is 6 foot and may really enjoy the extra legroom premium gives. I'm most definitely going to fly the Thai non-stop next Spring when we return to BKK. Now the big question is, do we spend $400 each more for the premium. I guess I'll wait and see what kind of feedback comes up re regular economy vs. premium.
