Usually, sunscreen with an impressively high SPF like 55 is the kind of thing I pack for a beach vacation and then stick under my bathroom sink until the next time I go to a beach. [BTW, that’s not the best practice. I recently learned most sunscreens expire one year after you open them, eek.] They’re too heavy, greasy, or too annoying to rub in to be a valid everyday option for me.
I fully expected that I’d put on Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid-Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 55, get awesome sun protection, and then forget all about the stuff until I was scrambling to pack for another weekend away. So I was really surprised by the fact that it rubbed in pretty quickly. I was even more surprised when it didn’t feel greasy or heavy or...like anything, really. I went to work and completely forgot it was on.
It even made my skin look a little dewy, like I’d just put on a good moisturizer. That was enough to sell me — make me dewy and you’ve got a friend for life. Now, Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid-Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 55 is one of my go-to sunscreens [yes, I have many, actually]. It’s never made me break out or feel sticky or get sweaty. I wear it when I’m going to work in the spring and summer. I slap it on before I work out or run errands.
And its UV protection is really solid. It’s got a dermatologist-favorite sunscreen complex, Neutrogena’s broad-spectrum Helioplex. [This formula contains the chemical sunscreens avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene, and oxybenzone.] It does have a subtle sunscreen smell, but for me, the scent is soft enough that it’s a fine trade-off knowing I'm safe in the sun.
