How do I switch between 2 graphics cards on my laptop?

My hp pavilion dv6 6136 has two graphics cards. One is an intel one and the other is a radeon one. at the moment im sure the radeon one is better but my computer is using the intel one. and because of that i have bad fps lag. i want to how to switch and use the other graphics card. how do i do that? i use windows 7 home premium

also would it be possible to use them together? i dont think so but just making sure

If you have 2 monitors you will be able to use both graphics cards separately. Meaning, that you attach each card to a monitor. And this works in Windows 7. As far as using them together, that is called Crossfire [AMD] and SLI [for Nvidia]. They have to be the same graphics card in order to use both.

I want to make sure, this is a laptop?

The specs on the laptop doesn't show a radeon card. It only uses the video graphics from the CPU.

Yes this is a laptop. It does have two graphics cards. One is a Intel HD Graphics Family, which I'm sure is the bad one. And the other is a Radeon HD 6770M. It is mine.
And how do I attach one card to a different monitor. As I do have a spare monitor, old though.

Sorry forgot something with the name... Its not just a hp pavillion dv6 6136... its a hp pavillion dv6 6136TX. That is where your confusion is JKatwyopc. You will probably not find this computer on any internet searches as I'm pretty sure its a model that is only for shop I bought it from. I couldn't even find it when trying to search it in the support part of Hp.
Also when I use my gpu reading programs i do this test with it... the intel processor is on 10-11 fps... and its maxxed out at 1100MHz 100% load... But when i do the same one on my Radeon gpu it does the same fps but stays at 100MHz and 0% load... why isnt it going any higher than that?

Please help I've been searching around everywhere for answers on why my computer is *** when playing games. I've gone all the way from system settings to faulty graphics card and to this in the past 6 months!

Check to see which video graphics your laptop is using.

On the bottom left click on Start->Right-click Computer->Click on Properties->Click on Device Manager->Click on the little white arrow next to Display Adapters.

Tell us what it brings up.

For example mine says AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series, because I have a HD 6870.

If it shows a 6770M, try updating your AMD drivers laptop version.

I've done all that. I know it's using the intel graphics card instead of the radeon. And the drivers are updated. Also it shows both but when I go to start-> search "dxdiag"-> display it says it's using the intel one

Can you boot into your BIOS and see if you have an option to switch off the intel graphics?

ive tried but when i do that it didnt come up with the options.... wasnt it that when you boot your comp you press F10 and navigate thru stuff then change the graphics card from dynamic to fixed... when i did it there was only a box to write in...?

Yes you press F10 to get to your BIOS. What does it say when you look at your graphics options, you said dynamic or fixed. Has it been this way ever since you got your laptop? or have you changed any options?

If u havent found the answer already then here it is if u right click on the desktop then you will get the option of "Configure switcable Graphics " click that then a window of amd will open and you can see which one is in use then there are 2 option one the intel the other the Amd if the AMD is not already in use the click on the amd button and the screen will flash in order to change the gpu so dont worry hopw it helps

If you cant get it done, or you dont have the option of conf switchable graphics, you need to let windows update download the right driver, most of the times its an older driver, but it seems to be the only way to get it installed proprely.
Ive been in that road, with the latest drivers from AMD.com, you will get an error, and lack of options to switch or use the amd graphic card.
Than ive decided to install via windows update a driver from 2011, ok its old, but now i have all the options, like configure switchable graphics, and better system integration.
Now i can choose the graphic card or a automatic switch when the battery kicks in.

Like i said if you cant find those options, better check the windows update for that driver, there is no need to unnistall the amd.com driver, just click to install the old driver from windows update, restart. And thats it...

I have a similar laptop [dv6-6165tx] and the way you do it is very easy, just follow these steps -

1. You have posted about fixed and dynamic so I assume that you know how to get there, set it to FIXED. Save and exit from bios.

2. Now on your desktop right click anywhere and you will get the option to switch graphics card, do it to the more powerful one [hd 6770m].

That is it.
