Vodafone today announced the Tab speed 6, a 4G-enabled 8-inch tablet that will retail on prepay for just £125, or from £16 per month on contract [with 3GB of data included].

Vodafone Tab speed 6: Looks like any other tablet, but packing a 4G SIM slot and retailing from just £125 on Pay as you Go

The specs provided by Vodafone are pretty sparse [see below], and the selection of images even more limited [see right], although if you’ve seen one black tablet then you’ve probably seen them all.

Clearly the selling point here is the price, and its ability to continue enjoying Spotify, Netflix or YouTube, or games that require a constant connection, even when you leave a Wi-Fi connection.

The specs as provided by Vodafone show this certainly isn’t high-spec, but if it’s half as good as Vodafone’s Smart Ultra 6 smartphone then it could be a great buy for anyone wanting seamless connectivity without messing around with portable hotspots or tethering.

Dimensions [mm] 209×124.9×8.3 Weight [g] 330g Processor 1.3GHz quad-core Display 8-inch multi-touch RAM 1GB Camera 5MP rear-facing / 2MP front-facing Operating system Android 5.1 Colour Anthracite Metallic Battery 4060mAh Storage 16GB internal + microSDHC [64GB max]

The Tab speed 6 joins the £99 EE Robin tablet, which is aimed at children, and the EE Harrier – although the latter is not available on prepay.

There’s not much else to say until I get one to look at myself, but until then tech blogger Purav D has been using a Tab speed 6 since before Christmas and has already published his video review – so check it out below.

I've been looking to get a cheap tablet to use for reading books and downloading/watching films etc as the screen on my Note 4 is too small[!].

I've just seem the above on the VF website which includes 3GB of 4G for £10/m with no up front cost.

While the specs don't seem great for gaming etc it seems ideal for the reasons I want it.

I've sene some mixed reviews [from OK for the price to don't touch it with a bargepole] so wondered if anyone has any hands on experience with it?

Also, this is probably a dumb quesiton but the blurb on VF goes on about the 4G connectivity does doesn't make it clear that you can also use wifi, but I assume that wifi is a "given" these days so there is no need to mention it?

This is what the specs have under connectivity
